In general, Greek transport is fairly well organized. The buses in
Athens have air-conditioning. However, the old subway line leaves
a whole lot to be desired. Does it still use a steam engine or what?
That's a legitimate question given its pitiful state. Recently a second
subway line was inaugurated. Phew!
In the islands, all the strategic tourist spots have regular and punctual
bus service available. But, of course, you'll need to take a boat
if you want to get there. Most of them leave from Pireus. Sometimes
the trip is a little long... Nomicos lines, Agapitos lines, and G&A
lines all offer the same prices. The trip to Santorin takes about
12 hours; for Milos about 8 hours, for Sifnos about 6 hours, 5 1/2
for Mykonos and 10 hours for Hania (Crete).
