National Holidays
March 25th, in celebration of the 1821 revolution and the
end of Turkish occupation.
October 28th, in celebration of the refusal of the Italian ultimatum
in 1940.

Religious Holidays
Religious holidays are a particularly important part of Greek
culture.
August 15th. The biggest celebrations are in
Corfu and Patras (carnaval).
Easter (Pashka). Everything closes at Easter
in Greece. Double check if you would like to visit a museum
or monument, etc.
Pentecost Monday (Orthodox), mid June, everything
closed as well.

FINALLY!
The new subway line has been opened in Athens, to the joy of
everyone who was forced to take the old one!
The old line was particularly unbearable. In the summer, the temperature
could reach as high as 45 degrees in the cars. The subway itself
seemed to have stepped right out of another era.
Today, in certain stations, there are number pieces of archeology
presented for the public. |
